Bike commuting in Singapore is not only an eco-friendly way to get around but also a fantastic way to stay fit and save money. Here’s how to get started:

Choose the Right Bike
Opt for a bike that suits your commute. For shorter rides, a simple city bike works well. If your route includes park connectors or longer distances, a hybrid or road bike might be better.
For my journey, I got the Giant Escape 3 ($560)

Kommot helped with the initial planning of the route, however some features are paywalled so it was a turn off. Maps are high quality.
Overall quite usable for bike commuting. Provides alternative routes. Pathfinding is abit sketchy, sometimes sending me down routes that are narrow and dangerous. Overall great.

Plan Your Route
Use apps like Google Maps or the MyTransport.SG app to find bike-friendly paths, such as the Park Connector Network (PCN). Avoid high-traffic roads when possible for a safer, more enjoyable ride. Personally, I used Komoot and Google Maps to plan my routes. They are relatively reliable, although some routes were a little sketchy due to lack of infrastructure.
Gear Up
Invest in essentials: a helmet for safety, lights for visibility, and a sturdy lock for security. Consider a waterproof bag or panniers to carry your belongings, especially during Singapore’s unpredictable rains.

ROCKBROS Bicycle Tools
These tools are there to save your life if a puncture occurs while commuting
Understand Road Rules
Familiarize yourself with Singapore’s cycling rules. Ride in designated cycling lanes where available, and always give way to pedestrians.

Start Small
Begin with short rides to nearby destinations before tackling your full commute. This helps you build confidence and endurance.

Stay Safe
Always signal your intentions, be alert to your surroundings, and avoid distractions like headphones.
Bike commuting in Singapore can transform your daily routine. With a little preparation, you’ll be zipping through the city in no time—reducing your carbon footprint and embracing a healthier lifestyle!
